Datastar combines two ideas: signals on the client and SSE from the server.

A signal is a small piece of reactive state that lives in a data-signals attribute. The server can push HTML fragments at any time over SSE, and Datastar morphs the existing DOM so input focus and scroll position are preserved.

Why hypermedia?

There is no duplicate state on the client. The source of truth stays on the server; the client only renders.
